What Choghadiya is
Choghadiya divides the day into eight parts between sunrise and sunset, and the night into eight more between sunset and the next sunrise. Each part carries one of seven names — Amrit, Shubh and Labh are treated as auspicious, Kaal, Rog and Udveg as inauspicious, and Char as neutral. Which name falls first depends on the weekday, so the whole table shifts every day.

Amrit is the most favoured window, followed by Shubh and Labh. Kaal, Rog and Udveg are the ones traditionally avoided for starting something new; Char sits in between and suits travel and errands.
