How to read your result

The result has two independent parts, and conflating them is the most common mistake. PRESENCE is whether Mars sits in one of the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th houses. CANCELLATION is whether a classical rule nullifies it. A chart can be "present and cancelled", which is not the same as "not manglik" and not the same as "manglik".

The three reference points matter as much as the houses. Mars is counted from the Lagna, from the Moon AND from Venus - being manglik from any one of them counts. This is why people get contradictory answers from different sites: a calculator checking only the Lagna will call a chart clean that is manglik from the Moon.

Severity is reported as mild when a cancellation applies and strong when none does. Neither is a verdict about a marriage.

A worked example

Take the chart used across these pages - 15 April 1990, Mumbai, Aries ascendant. Mars sits in the 11th house from the Lagna, which is NOT one of the five dosha houses. A Lagna-only calculator stops there and reports no Mangal dosha.

Counted from the Moon, though, Mars is in the 4th - a dosha house. Counted from Venus it is in the 1st - also a dosha house. So this chart is manglik from two of the three reference points, and reporting it as clean would simply be wrong.

Then the cancellation. Mars here is aspected by Jupiter, which is one of the classical nullifying conditions, so the result comes back present, CANCELLED, severity mild - with the specific rule named. That is the whole answer: yes it is there, yes something cancels it, and here is which rule.

The cancellation rules we actually check

Five conditions, any one of which nullifies the dosha: Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio); Mars exalted in Capricorn; Mars in a friendly sign (Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius or Pisces); Mars conjunct or aspected by Jupiter; and Mars in the 12th house in one of Venus's signs - Taurus OR Libra.

That last rule is worth flagging. Many implementations check only Taurus, and this one did too until August 2026. The exception is stated for both of Venus's signs, and applying it to one of them is a half-implemented rule rather than a doctrinal choice. A chart with Mars in the 12th in Libra is cancelled here and often is not elsewhere.

Mutual cancellation - the idea that two manglik partners cancel each other - is deliberately NOT applied here. That is a two-chart question and belongs to kundli matching, not to a single-chart reading.

What this does not tell you

It does not predict a marriage outcome. Mangal dosha is a temperament and timing consideration traditionally weighed before a match; treating it as a prohibition is a modern distortion that has caused a great deal of unnecessary distress.

It does not read the partner. Whether the dosha matters for a specific pairing needs both charts, and a cancelled dosha on one side changes the picture entirely.

And it moves with birth time. The Lagna reference changes sign roughly every two hours, so an uncertain time can flip the Lagna verdict - though the Moon and Venus references are far steadier, which is part of why all three are checked.
