Frequently asked

What is a yoga in Vedic astrology?

A yoga is a named combination of planets or house lords that classical texts single out as producing a particular effect - Gajakesari when Jupiter sits in a kendra from the Moon, the Pancha Mahapurusha yogas when one of five planets is strong in a kendra in its own or exaltation sign, Raja yogas when a kendra lord and a trikona lord connect.

How many yogas does this check?

55, drawn from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika and Saravali. The result reports how many of the 55 fired rather than just listing hits, because 'six of fifty-five' tells you something that a bare list of six does not.

Why does it show difficult yogas as well as good ones?

Because the chart has them and hiding them would be dishonest. Kemadruma, Daridra yoga, Papa Kartari and the rest are part of the same catalog. They are shown in their own group, described plainly, and none of them is a verdict - a great many charts carry at least one.

Does having a Raja yoga mean I will be rich or powerful?

No. A yoga describes a configuration, not an event. Whether it delivers depends on the strength of the planets involved, whether their dasha periods actually run during your life, and what else in the chart supports or undercuts it. Raja yogas are also far more common than their name suggests.

Do I need my exact birth time?

For most of them, yes. Yogas built purely from planet-to-planet relationships (Budhaditya, Gajakesari) hold regardless, but anything involving houses or house lords depends on your ascendant, which moves about every two hours. Without a time we read the chart for noon and the house-based yogas become indicative only.
