Pitra dosha (पितृ दोष)

Afflictions to the Sun and the 9th house, read in tradition as an unfinished obligation on the paternal line.

What it means

The 9th house carries father, lineage and dharma, and the Sun carries the paternal principle - so Pitra dosha is defined by damage to those two. The usual triggers are the Sun conjunct Rahu, Ketu or Saturn, the nodes in the 9th, or the 9th lord fallen into a dusthana.

How it is read

Astroniq scores it rather than answering yes or no, because the classical sources weight the conditions differently and a chart that trips one mild rule is not describing what a chart tripping four is. The score, its threshold and the rule that fired are all shown.

What to watch for

It says nothing about anyone's conduct and it is not a diagnosis of anything that has happened in a family. It is also common. The honest reading is that these are afflictions to the houses of father and inheritance, which in practice describe a chart where authority and inherited expectation are a live theme.
