Glossary

Dosha (दोष)

A named affliction in a chart - a configuration classical texts flag as a difficulty, almost always with a stated cancellation.

What it means

The word means blemish or fault. In chart terms it names a specific configuration: Mangal dosha when Mars occupies certain houses, Kaal Sarp when every planet falls between Rahu and Ketu, Nadi dosha when a couple shares the same Nadi, Pitra dosha in placements read as ancestral debt.

How it is read

Every classical dosha comes with cancellation conditions, and those conditions are common. Mangal dosha has a long list of exemptions by sign, by age and by matching against another chart carrying it. A dosha reported without checking its cancellations is a partial reading, not a finding.

What to watch for

This is the vocabulary most exploited commercially, since fear sells remedies. The honest framing is the one the classical texts themselves use: a dosha marks a place where a chart is under tension, is extremely common, and carries a stated route to resolution rather than a sentence.
