The chain, in order
Every degree in KP resolves three times. The sign gives the broad setting. The nakshatra containing that degree gives the star lord. The sub-division within the nakshatra gives the sub-lord. Krishnamurti's formula is that a planet gives the results of the houses its STAR LORD signifies, modified by whether its sub-lord permits them - so the star lord is the source and the sub-lord is the gate.
Why the star lord outranks the sign lord
This is the sharpest break from Parashari practice. In classical reading a planet in Aries is substantially Mars-coloured. In KP a planet in Aries but in Krittika - a Sun nakshatra - gives Sun results first, because the star lord is read as the effective dispositor. It is why a KP reading of the same chart can reach a different conclusion without either astrologer having made an arithmetic error.
