What this period brings
Mangal's seven years raise initiative, competitiveness and appetite for risk. Things get done; they also get fought over. Property, land, brothers, machinery and physical work all come into play.
Where it tends to go well
Building, competing, surgery and medicine, defence and engineering, property matters, and any work with a clear opponent or deadline.
Where it asks for care
Patience, diplomacy and partnership. Accidents, disputes and blood-pressure-adjacent health complaints are the classical cautions, and the modern version is simply burnout.
The nine antardashas
Every mahadasha divides into nine sub-periods (antardasha or bhukti), running in the same fixed order and starting with the lord's own. Each is Mars's 7 years times the sub-lord's share of 120 — so the table below is arithmetic, not opinion. Your own dates depend on the Moon's nakshatra at birth, which the calculator works out.
| Antardasha | Length |
|---|---|
| Mars – Mars | 5 mo |
| Mars – Rahu | 1 yr 1 mo |
| Mars – Jupiter | 11 mo |
| Mars – Saturn | 1 yr 1 mo |
| Mars – Mercury | 1 yr |
| Mars – Ketu | 5 mo |
| Mars – Venus | 1 yr 2 mo |
| Mars – Sun | 4 mo |
| Mars – Moon | 7 mo |
How to read this honestly
Mars is a malefic that is nonetheless the karaka of courage — the dasha gives fuel and does not care what you burn it on. Directed, it is one of the most productive periods; undirected, it is the one that generates the most avoidable conflict.
Frequently asked
- How long is Mars Mahadasha?
- Seven years, tied with Ketu as the shortest.
- Is Mars Mahadasha dangerous?
- It raises energy, competitiveness and risk appetite rather than danger as such. The traditional cautions are accidents and disputes; the practical one is giving the drive a deliberate outlet.
