Neecha Bhanga (नीच भंग)

The cancellation of a planet's debilitation - and the claim that a cancelled debilitation can outperform an ordinary placement.

What it means

A planet in its sign of debilitation - neecha - is at its structural weakest. Neecha bhanga is the cancellation of that state, and the classical conditions are specific: the lord of the debilitation sign, or the lord of the sign where the planet would be exalted, sits in a kendra from the Lagna or from the Moon; or that lord is conjunct the debilitated planet; or the debilitated planet is itself in a kendra, or exchanges signs with a strong planet.

How it is read

When it applies, several texts go further than mere repair and call the result Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga - the idea being that a planet that begins low and is then lifted produces more than one that was never tested. Read carefully, the claim is about trajectory: difficulty early in the area the planet governs, then disproportionate result later.

What to watch for

Two cautions. The cancellation is not a reversal - the planet does not become exalted, and the affairs it rules usually still carry the mark of the early weakness. And bhanga is frequently over-claimed, because one of the conditions is easy to find if you look loosely at several. A cancellation worth reporting names which specific condition applies and which planet supplies it.
