Lal Kitab remedies are deliberately ordinary: feeding animals, floating a coin in running water, keeping something in a particular place, giving away a specific item. They require no priest, no cost to speak of and no ritual training. That accessibility is a real part of why the tradition spread as widely as it did.
The rule the popular versions drop
A totka in Lal Kitab is prescribed for a SPECIFIC position - a named planet in a named house, usually with a named rin behind it. The tradition does not hold that a remedy for Saturn helps anyone with Saturn trouble; it holds that a remedy for Saturn in a particular house helps a chart with Saturn in that house. A remedy handed out from a table without reading the chart is not a weaker version of the practice - it is not the practice.
The commercial problem, stated plainly
This is the most exploited corner of Indian astrology. Remedies are cheap to prescribe, impossible to falsify and easy to sell in bundles, and the structure of the tradition - diagnose a debt, prescribe its settlement - lends itself to that. Nothing here is an argument against the tradition; it is an argument for asking which position a prescribed remedy is for, and for declining anything sold as a package before a chart has been read.
