Drekkana (D3) Chart (द्रेष्काण)

The chart of siblings and courage - each sign in thirds, read for co-borns, initiative and the nerve to act.

What the D3 chart is read for

The D3 is read for brothers and sisters, and for the quality classical texts pair with them: courage, initiative, the willingness to push. The three parts of a sign are governed by the sign itself, the sign five ahead, and the sign nine ahead - all of the same element - so the D3 keeps a planet's elemental character while changing its house context. It is the standard second look at the 3rd house.

How the D3 is calculated

Each sign divides into three equal parts of 10°. The first belongs to that sign, the second to the sign 5 signs on, the third to the sign 9 signs on.

Reading it alongside the birth chart

Use it when the D1's 3rd house is ambiguous - a 3rd lord that is neither strong nor afflicted. The D3 often resolves whether the matter is about the siblings themselves or about the native's own nerve, which the D1 tends to blur.

What a divisional chart will not tell you

The D3 does not count siblings reliably. Family size is a social fact as much as an astrological one, and any chart-based count is an estimate that the last century of falling birth rates has made steadily worse.

Frequently asked

What is the Drekkana chart read for?
Siblings and courage. It is the standard second opinion on the 3rd house - co-borns, initiative, and the willingness to act.
Can the D3 tell me how many siblings I have?
Not reliably. Classical rules for counting co-borns were written for much larger families, and family size today is driven more by circumstance than by chart.
